A Grimm Reaping
Using thin layers of oil on canvas I create figurative paintings for which I pull imagery from the lesser known Grimm fairytales. I use these stories as an allegory to create dream-like landscapes and figures to explore the complexities of growing up and living as a female in Appalachia. These fairytales also perpetuate traditions and ideologies that, like these stories, have been passed down from generation to generation. Along with literature, I take inspiration from relations, nature, politics and the current social climate.
